IIBS Research Fellow for the fiscal year 2001-2002


Harriet Hunter, IIBS Research Fellow for the period 1 November 2001 - 31 January 2002, is a Ph.D. candidate in Japanese Language and Culture at the National University of Leiden, The Netherlands. She is also an assistant professor at Miyazaki International College, where she teaches courses in East Asian Art History. She is in the process of completing her doctoral dissertation. Titled An Iconological Study of the Rishukyô jûhachie mandara in the Daigoji, this dissertation focuses on the mandala that the Shingon pilgrim-monk Shûei (809-884) is said to have brought back from his journey to China in 865.
